Dear Friends

Brookland Church is dedicated to St Augustine, who has many wise quotes attributed to him. One of them says “People go abroad to admire the heights of the mountains, the mighty waves of the sea, the broad tides of the rivers, the compass of the ocean, and the circuits of the stars, yet pass over the mystery of themselves without a thought”.

Well as many a holiday plan was thwarted due to travel restrictions – it certainly seemed to give people time as they wondered about what was important to them? For some this led to a new hobby or skill – even a change in career. So in some situations this “forced time” to ourselves resulted in something positive.

But of course there were those people and times when that inward looking wasn’t so positive, as we faced awkward thoughts and problems. Perhaps the length of time was such, that we began to over think or over worry about things. The lack of social action or activities meant that it was too easy to get things out of context.

So as we gradually move into a more normal routine, let us remember to take time to consider what is important, as we go about our lives day by day. Let us endeavour not to get so busy or pre occupied, that we never have time for ourselves. If we build that time in, as we go along it will enable us to make gradual changes which might be easier to cope with and more manageable.

But looking after ourselves is about having the courage to ask for help – whether that it just chatting to a friend – or seeking more professional help. If anyone is in need of support, please do not hesitate to make contact. Also please do not forget the excellent support from The Samaritans on Phone; 226 123 or email jo@samaritans.org

Let us all pray for happier and better times. Remember how precious you are, and take care of yourself.

God Bless
