Monthly Letter

Dear Friends

July is going to be a busy month for the people of Brookland  - and beyond…. First with our Bar in the Bell Tower on 6th July and then our quiz in Brookland Church on Sat 27th July. Both perfect occasions to meet up with old friends and meet some new ones. Our last Bar in the Bell Tower was a great success, and it was surprising how many times I heard people say that they had met people that they hadn’t seen for years. It was great to see so many people enjoying themselves – and asking for more !

We also intend to have a Film afternoon in the Belltower, during the School Holidays for Children – but I do need some willing parents to make this a success. Hopefully we can get a date in the diary soon, so we can advertise it through the schools, before they break for the summer. So if you want to be part of making this happen – come along to a meeting in the Belltower 7pm Monday 8TH July. Without your help, it won’t happen !

And did you know that we have some board games set up in Church, so if you fancy challenging your neighbour to a spot of scrabble etc – pop along to the church. (And if you have any spare board games – drop them off)!

So exciting times all round on a social front. I am a great believer, that (if the community wish it to be) the Church should be the centre of the village, so I am hoping this is the start of something good.

However I am also minded to remind you of the Church Services that we have each month. Holy Communion at Fairfield on the 1ST Sunday of the month at 10 am, and every other Wednesday at 6.30pm Brookland Church. And we also have a fabulous evensong on the 2nd Sunday of the month at 6.30pm. A group of people from around the marsh form a choir for this event and have regular practises – but I am saddened when on occasions the Choir outnumbers the congregation. So why not pop along?

But it might be that neither of these services appeal to you? If there is a service that you or your children would like to have, and you would be happy to assist – please do let me know. Come along to the meeting on Monday 8th July and share your views. Once again, I need willing people to help make this happen.

And lastly, you may have noticed that the window in the Chapel facing the Pub is boarded up. On inspection the windows were bulging out, and really very unsafe. So they are away for repair. We are extremely grateful to the Romney Marsh Historic Churches Trust for a generous grant to make this happen. Without their support – it would probably remain boarded up. So huge appreciation of the support they give us.

So here’s hoping this is the start of great times in Brookland – and hoping that you will want to be a willing part.

Wishing you all a very happy summer

God Bless

Revd Shuna
