Monthly Letter

Dear all

I thought I would take the opportunity to update parishioners of news on a personal note, as well as that of the Church.

Many of you will know that my paid work is outside of the Church, and I care for Brookland and Fairfield Churches on a voluntary basis, in my spare time. For the last 15 years my paid work has been for Kent County Council. However my team were the latest victim of the cuts, and I was made redundant in August. Thankfully for me, I have managed to get a job lined up with Kent Fire and Rescue, with their Community Safety Team, and hope to start in October. So I am in a far better situation than the rest of my team, and indeed many others.

Church News:

At Brookland Church we have carpeted the Belltower in order that we can use such a wonderful space for small events – as well of course in keeping our bell ringers warmer during the winter months. We do also get many visiting bell ringers, so it will be appreciated by many.

One idea we have had is to have small film shows. These in the main will be in the summer months – but we are hoping to launch a Children’s film around about Half term week. So please keep an eye out for information posters on the Church notice board, as we haven’t quite finalised dates as I write this.

If anyone wishes to be involved in helping set these up – please do get in contact, as we really want as many people from the community to enjoy our unique facilities. Furthermore if anyone has any ideas of events they would like to see in the church – please do contact me. The Church is a great asset for the village – and we are very keen to share it !

Meanwhile at Fairfield we have carried out some remedial work to help keep the building looking good, and we are very grateful for a grant from RMHCT in order to do so. So do pop a long and have a look.

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Dave Cottington, Maureen Akers , together with George and Olivia Staple for acting as stewards for the “Ride and Stride” sponsored Bike Ride that brought much needed funds into our churches. Your work was gratefully appreciated by us all, as well of course by those who visited.

Also you will see in this edition our Harvest Supper for this area on Friday 26th October in Brookland Village Hall. It would be lovely to see you there. You are all very welcome.

And last but not least………. On 10th/11th November we are having a Remembrance Flower Festival  honouring the lives of those lost locally. This will include displays dedicated to each and every Soldier. The Festival will culminate with a Special Evensong of Remembrance at 6.30pm Sunday. If you would like to be involved with a display, or in any other way eg donating flowers etc, your help would be most welcome.

I do hope to see you at some of  our events.

God Bless

Revd Shuna
